A Little History

Sok Monkee brings together five guys who have a bit of history between them and it goes something like this...

In 1989 Mike Kiley asked a 19 year-old green kid to audition for his band Toyz. The audition went well and Dylan Setzer joined. Later when the Toyz drummer had to quit, another youth by the name of Frank Hoggard filled the spot. After a couple of years Dylan and Frank decided to try something different. They hooked up with musical prodigy Nate Smith and formed an original band called Scarlet Thread. In 1992 Mike Kiley again called on Dylan and asked him to try out for a Raleigh based band. Dylan left with Mike while Frank and Nate stayed together. Two years later Dylan, Mike and Frank joined with a road tested guitar monster named Marc Jackson to form Mother Freedom. When the boys went into the studio to record, they asked Nate to join them; the musical chemistry could not be denied. Although they eventually went their separate ways after Mother Freedom, they now get a second chance to build onto the foundation that was layed years ago. Sok Monkee is a band; a band of brothers, whom despite direction, always seem to wind up in a hot practice room or on a lighted stage together... a rock n' roll family.
